RAMBLER'S NOTE: I've changed the layout of my blog a little bit, so that I don't have entire pages upon pages all showing on one page. AKA: you have to click the "More Rambling..." link to read the entire excerpt.
Work. Work. Work.
Blagh. Weeks are so boring during the summer. Weekends are where all the fun happens.
This past weekend, Keeper and I had a pretty awesome grill-out with a few friends, did some flyering at a NASCAR race, and went to a Strawberry Festival.
On Friday, I got to try making burgers for the first time, and I also made my home-made mashed potatoes. Keeper made a grilled-veggie mix, and our friends brought oreos, chips, and soda. It was a pretty good time. We grilled out on the rooftop, and when our food was done being cooked, we brought it all down to the apartment to eat and relax. We ended up the night by playing Perplexcity, which is easily becoming one of my favorite games!
On Saturday, we went up to Road America to pass out some flyers for Cowboys & Aliens at the NASCAR Bucyrus 200 race. It was pretty cool. I've been to a race before, but not this big, or even as cool of a track. Road America's track has a bunch of turns in it, including a V-shaped turn, and a few right turns even. Keeper and I (and our two co-workers) got to go into the actual pit during the race, and see a full-blown, change-your-tires, fuel-up pit-stop right up close! I think that was probably my favorite part of the day. We spent most of the afternoon passing out little cards to people advertising the movie and the #01 car (driven by Mike Wallace!). We stopped at a McDonald's for dinner (woo. hoo.), and came home to just relax for the rest of the night.
Then on Sunday, Keeper, E., and I went to Strawberry Fest up in Cedarburg, WI. It was pretty cool to walk around and look at stuffs. I had been looking to try a "strawberry brat", but they were all out of them by the time we found the booth! I guess Keeper had been counting on me being a little more into it, but I wasn't really that apt to spend $5 on a single strawberry (even when covered in chocolate), or get a strawberry soda (Sprecher's), or but any regular cheeseburger for $7, when I can get any of that at home for cheaper, and any time I like. I did enjoy the day of just walking around and looking at everything. I wish my Esoteric Hellion had been able to make it, but I'm sticking with the idea that it was his loss for not coming with us.
Time seems to be going at a very eclectic rate these days. It feels incredibly later than it usually is most of the time, and sometimes it feels as though time has just stopped for the duration of any activity. It's been pretty crazy. This summer feels as though something's different, but not just for us. The city is so incredibly quiet all the time, and it sometimes feels as though there's no one else for miles around. The weekends have been a little different, just because Keeper and I have been making plans almost every weekend.
This weekend is Summerfest beginning, and I'm REALLY looking forward to going to some of the concerts with my friends. Next weekend, I think Keeper and I are going to a concert or two more, and then the weekend after that I think we're looking at possibly going to a park with our friend J. and maybe going to visit his parents(?). The end of July is my twin's wedding, and we've bookmarked the end of August for a trip to Minnesota, which I'm thoroughly looking forward to.
I still feel as though the summer hasn't really started yet. Am I the only one?
